Geotechnical Investigations
Aurora Geosciences offers state-of-the-art geophysical surveys to companies and government bodies engaged in geotechnical or environmental investigations. Our geophysical staff are thoroughly familiarized with northern survey operations and have a strong grounding in geology.
Geophysical techniques optimized for shallow, high resolution investigations can be used to locate metallic debris, determine rippability, map contaminant plumes, salt infiltration or permafrost or to investigate bedrock topography or integrity.
AGL offers the following services in support of engineering investigations in the North:
- Magnetic Field Surveys - for mapping subsurface ferromagnetic debris (pipes, drums, waste) and for delineating different bedrock formations
- Gravity Surveys - useful for confirming the location of voids or ground ice located with GPR or other methods
- Electromagnetic Field Surveys - in conjunction with magnetic field surveys, useful in locating conductive debris or subsurfaces layers, contaminant plumes, salt infiltration or permafrost
- Ground Penetrating Radar Surveys - useful for mapping soil and bedrock layers, detecting voids, in forensic investigations, for determining the depth to the water table or the extent of permafrost
- Seismic Surveys - useful for mapping the top of bedrock, for investigations of thick (>20 m) overburden and for determining rippability
